Within the project World School World Neighbourhood 4 primary schools in Noord-Brabant (the Netherlands) conducted a number of activities around the theme of sustainability. The Louis Bolk Institute investigated the effect of these activities on the sustainability awareness and behaviour among schoolchildren and the local residents and on social partnerships between schools, schoolchildren, and local citizens, organizations and businesses. During the project year the schoolchildren showed an increased awareness of waste and littering and have a better understanding of the abstract concept of sustainability. According to the residents the project contributed positively to the neighbourhood liveability. During the project a large number of activities were developed. This required new collaborations with organizations and companies in the vicinity of the school. Many of these activities will be incorporated into the schools' permanent curricula. It can be concluded that the project significantly strengthened the social cohesion and local partnerships.
Op 4 basisscholen in Noord-Brabant zijn binnen het project Wereld School Wereld Wijk een groot aantal activiteiten rond het thema duurzaamheid uitgevoerd. Het Louis Bolk Instituut heeft de effecten hiervan onderzocht op de bewustwording en het gedrag rond duurzaamheid bij de schoolkinderen en de wijkbewoners. Daarnaast is onderzocht of dit project tot duurzame samenwerkingen binnen de wijk en het dorp heeft geleid en wat de kansen en moeilijkheden zijn om een meer duurzame voeding bij de kinderdagverblijven te introduceren. Gedurende het jaar dat het project liep is bij de schoolkinderen het bewustzijn rond duurzaamheid gestegen, er is iets meer kennis en op deelaspecten zoals afval bewaren is ook een verandering in gedrag te zien. De wijkbewoners geven aan dat de leefbaarheid in de wijk was verbeterd. Andere aspecten laten geen duidelijk verschil tussen de voor- en nameting zien. Gedurende het project zijn een groot aantal activiteiten ontwikkeld. Hiervoor zijn nieuwe samenwerkingen met organisaties en bedrijven in de omgeving van de school gestart. Een groot deel van deze activiteiten zullen ook in de volgende schooljaren worden georganiseerd, hetgeen zorgt voor een goede inbedding en een duurzame samenwerking van de partners.
